A - Taste the Letter

Objectives:

Children will practice the targeted letter of the alphabet by making and eating a snack that begins with that letter.

Children will follow directions/recipe to make a snack.

Children will develop cooperative skills to make a snack together.

Children will learn about different types of food that begin with the targeted letter.

Letter A Snacks

Apples
Animal crackers
Apricots 
Avocados

 

Activities:

Apple Swan

What you need:
Apple
Knife
Apple corer

What you do:

  1. Wash and core the apple. 
  2. Carve the swan's head and neck out of the bottom of the apple. Set this piece aside to create the swan's head in a later step.
  3. Cut a slice off the bottom of the apple so that the fruit sits level on a flat surface.
  4. The large apple piece will be the swan's body. Slice two large wedges out of the apple that will become the wings. Cut one wedge from the right side and one from the left side of the apple (see pic3.)
  5. Place the two large wedges back onto the swan's body.
  6. Last cut a slit and remove a small piece from the top of the apple piece.
  7. Slide the swan head piece inside.
  8. Enjoy!

 

  

Applesauce Delight

Applesauce Delight

What you need:
Unsweetened applesauce
Graham crackers
Cinnamon sugar
Whipping cream
Rolling pin
Clear plastic cups
Plastic spoons

What you do:
Put a layer of applesauce in the bottom of each cup. Crush graham crackers with rolling pin. Then, add a layer of the crushed graham crackers to the top of the applesauce. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top of graham crackers. Repeat the process until the cup is full. Add a dollop of whipping cream to the top.

Variation:
You can add a layer of whipped cream to the top of each graham cracker layer.

Ants on a Log

You will need:
Peanut butter (check for peanut allergies)
Raisins
Celery sticks

What you do:
Wash celery sticks. Spread peanut butter on to a celery stick and top with raisins. 

Peanut allergy: Replace peanut butter with cream cheese.
